TALB Member Benefits
Sometimes a new teacher may wonder why most teachers join their professional organization and what benefits are available to those who do. TALB members are entitled to many benefits that are unavailable to fee payers or non-members. Those benefits are either automatic at no cost once membership is established, available upon request at no extra cost, or available at reduced costs and discounted rates. Some comparisons of those benefits for TALB/CTA/NEA members compared to non-members/agency-fee payer are as follow:
- $1,000,000 liability insurance
- CTA Death & Dismemberment Plan
- Dues TALB Life Insurance
- TALB $3,000 Survivor Benefit
- Legal services
- Representation and assistance in solving employment problems
- Discounted insurance rates
- Financial planning
- Career insurance
- Low-interest credit cards and lines of credit
- Participation in all TALB/CTA/NEA activities
- Ability to elect officers and vote in all elections
- Ability to influence Association activities with input & ideas

Economic Benefits and Services
In addition to the broad professional services for which professional associations exist, NEA, CTA, and TALB provide many economic services for members; services that can actually offset your dues costs. These include:
TALB Survivors' Benefit
Included in your TALB dues, each member is eligible for a $3,000 survivor benefit. It is one way the Association helps families upon the death of a member. Make sure your beneficiary card is on file at the TALB office. Contact Ingrid Perez at the TALB office at (562) 492-1476 or email ingrid@talb.org to see if your card is current.
The families of all TALB members receive assistance from TALB professional staff in the event of the death of a TALB member.
CTA Death, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefits
Included in your CTA dues, each member is eligible for up to a $2,000 death benefit plus up to $10,000 in accidental and dismemberment benefits. To register a beneficiary for this important benefit, call CTA Risk Management/Economic Services at (650) 697-1400, Extension 206.
NEA Dues-Tab Insurance
Dues-Tab is a no cost NEA membership benefit consisting of a life insurance benefit, an accidental death and dismemberment benefit, and a special $50,000 benefit for covered accidents that occur while on the job or serving as an Association leader. For information and a beneficiary registration form, call NEA Member Benefits at 1-800-637-4636.
Please note: A separate beneficiary card is required for each of the TALB, LBUSD, CTA and NEA insurance.
