TALB Scholarships

The new 2016-17 TALB scholarship applications and instructions are now available below! The deadline for applications is Friday, March 24th, 2017 by 4:30PM.


TALB Outstanding Student Scholarship Award: $1,000

  • Number of Recipients Awarded: Two (2)
  • Recipient Award Amount: $1,000 each
  • Runner-Ups Allowed: Up to ten (10)
  • Runner-Up Amount: $200 each
  • Purpose: To recognize outstanding student achievement in the areas of academics, leadership, and civic engagement.
     
  • Eligibility Criteria – both of the options below:
     
    • Child or dependent of a TALB member.
    • High School senior or enrolled (or expected enrollment) in a college, university or trade school, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
       
  • Application Requirements:
     
    • Standard Contact Info, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Official Transcripts
    • Background summary of achievements and experience.
    • Perspectives essay.
    • Statement of educational goals.
       
  • APPLICATION:

  • Total Possible Disbursements: $4,000

TALB Career Advancement Scholarship Award: $1,000

  • Number of Recipients Awarded: One (1)
  • Recipient Award Amount: $1,000
  • Runner-Ups Allowed: Two (2)
  • Runner-Up Amount: $300 each
  • Purpose: To recognize the value of educators pursuing higher education in order to grow one’s capacity as an effective educator.
     
  • Eligibility Criteria – both of the options below:
    • TALB Member
    • Enrolled (or expected enrollment) in an education-related master’s or doctorate degree program, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above or an education-related credential program or class.
  • Application Requirements:
    • Standard Contact Info, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Official Transcripts
    • Autobiographical essay, Perspectives essay, Statement of educational goals.
       
  • APPLICATION:

  • Total Possible Disbursements:  $1,600

FUTURE EDUCATORS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $1,000

  • Number of Recipients Awarded:  One (1)

  • Recipient Award Amount: $1,000

  • Runner-Ups Allowed: Up to two (2) 

  • Runner-Up Amount: $200 each

  • Purpose: To recognize the importance of new people entering the education profession.
     

  • Eligibility Criteria – one of the two options below:

    • Currently enrolled in a university and in an education-related major or degree program geared towards preparing future teachers, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, and intends on applying as a teacher in Long Beach Unified School District.

    • Newly hired teachers in LBUSD that recently graduated from a university.
       

  • Application Requirements:

    • Standard Contact Info, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Official Transcripts

    • Autobiographical essay.

    • Career Aspirations essay.
       

  • APPLICATION:

  • Total Possible Disbursements: $1,400
